On 23 and 24 November, 2013, the sixth Iranian Mushroom Conference was held in the Olympic Hotel in Tehran, Iran.

Iran’s mushroom industry is on the rise. At the moment, some 75 million kg white button mushrooms are being produced per year, which ranks Iran as the 7th mushroom producing country in the world.

Every two years, a conference is organised for the Iranian mushroom industry. At this edition, compost and composting techniques, casing soil quality, biological pest control and hygiene were among the topics being adressed.

More than 350 growers, composters and researchers attended the conference, which says something about the growing interest in mushroom growing.

The event also featured a trade fair, with 16 companies presenting themselves. Among them traditionally some Dutch suppliers, like BVB Euroveen and Christiaens Group.

Dutch mushroom consultant Thei Staaks was among the speakers.
