Compost sensors

Compost temperature is measured using sensors in the compost. It’s important that a realistic temperature is measured. A realistic temperature is found in the heart of the compost. The further towards the edges of the compost the temperature is measured, the lower the value will be. The climate computer will therefore has a late reaction when cooling. The outer layer of the compost also reacts quicker to the cooling effect of the climate than the heart of the compost. The result is unnecessarily scorched patches in the compost.

It is essential to ALWAYS probe the sensor straight into the centre of the compost. With traditional systems and today’s no time to waste attitude, this is often overlooked.

There is a cheap and easy way to ensure the sensor is always placed in the right position. Don’t just penetrate the compost from the sides of the bed, but also make a hole in the uprights supporting the shelves. By drilling an opening in the uprights and the side planks the sensor can never be inserted into the compost at a slant. Obviously make sure the actual holes are also drilled perfectly horizontally.
